How to Get Your Drivers’ License in the Philippines

Student Permit
A student permit is a prerequisite for getting a driver’s license. Valid for a year, it allows you to drive a vehicle as long as you’re accompanied by a licensed driver.
Requirements:
- Applicant must be at least 16 years old
- Accomplished Application for Permits and Licenses (APL) Form
- Original and photocopy of LTO-accredited medical certificate
- Original and photocopy of Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) certificate
- Original and photocopy of valid government ID
- For minors: Notarized parental or guardian’s consent with a valid government ID
- For employed: Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN)
How to apply:
- Submit the required documents to an LTO representative.
- Have your photo taken and affix your signature in the designated area.
- Once the application has been approved, pay at the cashier.
- Receive student permit in the form of an official receipt.
Non-Professional License
A non-professional license allows you to drive any licensed private vehicle. You may apply for this type of license up to 12 months upon receiving your student permit.
Requirements:
- Applicant must be at least 17 years old

Professional License
A professional license allows you to drive for a living, authorizing you to get paid for the operation of any public or private vehicle.
Requirements:
- Applicant must be at least 18 years old
- No unsettled traffic violations
- Accomplished APL Form
- Original and photocopy of LTO-accredited medical certificate
- Original and photocopy of PDC
- Original valid student permit or non-professional driver’s license
- Original and photocopy of birth certificate
- Valid NBI Clearance or Police Clearance
- LTO Client ID
- TIN
