Tips on how to read road signs:

On the road, signs are a helpful way for drivers to receive information with just a single glance, saving them time and even reducing the risk of accidents. Designed to be understood by anyone regardless of the language they speak, road signs are symbols with corresponding meanings used to carry out traffic laws.

This is why it’s crucial that all drivers know these signs by heart. Road signs fall into eight categories, namely regulatory signs, warning signs, guide/informative signs, signs on expressways, traffic instruction signs, hazard markers, and road work signs.

These signs are used to show or enforce traffic laws, regulations, or specifications that apply either at all times, or at specified times and positions upon streets or highways. Regulatory signs help manage the flow of traffic, which make them some of the most important signs for all motorists!

1. Stop – Indicates that vehicles must come to a complete stop before the sign. 
2. No Parking – Indicates that vehicles are prohibited from parking at a certain area.
3. No Entry for All Types of Vehicle – Indicates that vehicles are not allowed to enter a certain area.
4. No Left/Right Turn – Indicates that vehicles are prohibited from making a left or right turn.
5. No U-turn – Indicates that vehicles are prohibited from making a U-turn.
6. No Overtaking – Indicates that vehicles are prohibited from passing other vehicles going in the same direction. 
7. No Blowing of Horn – Indicates that vehicles are prohibited from using their horn.
8. Max Speed – Indicates the max speed at which vehicles are allowed to run.
